Veterinary Cardiology
The Veterinary Cardiology Service at the Hospital provides comprehensive, advanced and highly specialised care for the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of cardiovascular diseases in companion animals.
Our team combines clinical experience, state-of-the-art technology and a multidisciplinary approach to manage everything from common heart diseases to complex cases requiring advanced and interventional procedures.
We perform complete cardiological studies that allow us to accurately assess cardiac anatomy and function, identify structural and functional abnormalities, determine their severity and evaluate their clinical impact in order to establish the most appropriate treatment for each patient.
Referral centre and specialised training
Our service combines advanced clinical care with a strong commitment to teaching and the development of the specialty.
We are a Residency Training Centre approved by the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine – Companion Animals (ECVIM-CA, Cardiology) and by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM, Cardiology) for the training of residents in veterinary cardiology.
This international accreditation recognises that the service meets the required standards in clinical activity, caseload, equipment, supervision and specialised training, enabling the training of future international specialists in veterinary cardiology.
The integration of clinical care, specialised training and research allows us to offer our patients access to evidence-based veterinary cardiovascular medicine, innovation and the highest international standards of quality.
Perform interventional cardiology procedures and advanced therapies
-
Implantation of cardiac pacemakers for the treatment of rhythm abnormalities and conduction disorders. -
Balloon valvuloplasty for the treatment of certain congenital valvular stenoses. -
Minimally invasive interventional cardiology procedures in selected patients -
Pre-surgical assessment and follow-up of patients with cardiovascular disease. -
Advanced cardiological monitoring and management of patients at high anaesthetic risk.
Veterinary Echocardiography
Echocardiography is an essential tool in veterinary cardiovascular diagnosis and provides detailed information on the structure and function of the heart in a fast, precise and non-invasive way.
Using advanced techniques, we perform:
-
Anatomical assessment using two-dimensional and M-mode echocardiography. -
Detection of myocardial thickening, chamber dilation and cardiac remodelling. -
Diagnosis of valvular diseases, congenital abnormalities and acquired conditions. -
Functional assessment using colour, pulsed-wave and continuous-wave Doppler. -
Quantification of stenoses, regurgitations and haemodynamic abnormalities. -
Follow-up of cardiac patients and monitoring of response to treatment.
Our goal is to provide accurate diagnoses and personalised treatments that help improve each patient’s quality of life and life expectancy.
