At the Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera, you can study at one of the most innovative veterinary schools in Spain. Veterinary Research

At CEU, we understand that high-quality veterinary medicine is grounded in scientific knowledge and ongoing innovation. That is why research is an essential part of student training. Our students and lecturers actively participate together in projects covering areas ranging from animal health and welfare to food safety. This direct involvement in research groups ensures students receive training which is rigorous, grounded in up-to-date knowledge, and closely aligned with the real challenges of the veterinary profession.

Animal health and infectious diseases

This research area focuses on the study of microbiological agents involved in animal reproduction (ProVaginBio), parasitic zoonoses (MMOPS) and molecular bacteriology (MolBac), adopting an integrated approach from laboratory research to clinical application. It also includes work on vector-borne diseases (ZOOVEC) and the biology of pathogens such as Listeria monocytogenes (LisBio)

Clinical medicine, surgery and animal welfare

Research in this area concerns veterinary anaesthesia, analgesia and monitoring (AnesVet), applied research in surgery and bioregenerative medicine (BIOMED-SURGERY), clinical studies in veterinary ophthalmology (GIOV) and equine reproduction (RYCE). This work also extends to ethology and animal welfare (UnEBA), with protocols to improve animal quality of life.

Biodiversity, conservation and historical knowledge

The SAIGAS group focuses on the management, analysis and conservation of wildlife. In parallel, the GR.I.A.L. group investigates the history of albeitería (traditional farriery and early veterinary practice) and its influence on contemporary veterinary medicine.

Animal health and food safety

Work in this area includes research into animal pathology (PASAPTA) and animal health surveillance across the food chain, from farm to fork, with the aim of strengthening food safety through microbiological risk analysis and applied technologies.

Research on bovine species

The BOVIRES group adopts a multidisciplinary approach to cattle health, nutrition and management, with particular emphasis on animal welfare and productivity.

Nutrition, production and sustainability

This research area focuses on animal nutrition and feeding (AviFeed Science, NUCOPRO) and on improving sustainable livestock production (SABIA). Strategies are also being developed to optimize the quality of food of animal origin and its traceability, from the farm to fork (CTYSA-FOOD, CAMPYSALMO).
